Nambrok-Denison Primary School's stong partnership between parents, students and staff includes a particularly high level of parent participation in School Council and Parents' Club. Our school has close links with local organisations including the Nambrok Wood Turners Group, Heyfield Resource Centre, Heyfield Lions Club, Sale and District Rotary Club and Landcare.
School Council elections are held in March each year, when nominations are called for to replace retiring members. Members are elected for a two year term with half the council positions becoming vacant each year. The membership schedule includes eleven elected parents, a community co-opted member, the Principal and three D.E.E.C.D representatives. Meetings are held at 7.30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.
School Council sub-committees include:
Each school councillor is a member of one sub-committee. All parents are welcome to join a sub-committee.
Our school revolves around an open atmosphere, where parents, younger siblings and grandparents feel welcome to involve themselves in the school and participate in classroom and extracurricular programs, as well as join in social and fundraising events.
All parents are encouraged to attend Parents' Club meetings, which are usually held at the school once a month at 9:30am. Dates for meetings are advised in the School Newsletter. The Parents' Club regularly arranges small fund-raising efforts, which are published in the Newsletter, and are an essential part of the provision of equipment for the school. Parents’ Club also organise social activities for students, parents and the broader school community. The Principal meets with the Parents’ Club each month to discuss current school priorities and activities. This is an excellent opportunity for all parents to hear about the exciting things happening in the school and to ask questions.
Around April / May each year the school holds its Annual Auction & Fete at the Nambrok Recreation Reserve. This is the school's major fundraiser for the year and the school relies on the income from this event for many of it's resources.
All families are asked to be involved in the School Fete by volunteering some time or assisting in the planning of the event. Fete Meetings are usually held fortnightly throughout term 1, leading up to the fete.
We love having volunteers helping out in our school. Please be aware though that any volunteers parent helpers, who help with children other than their own, must have a Working With Children Card (WWC) and agree to read and sign a confidentiality agreement.
